Gurkanwarjit Singh was a marvel, born on June 9th,1997. He was the only brother of three elder sisters and son of his father, Mr Inderjeet Singh Bains and mother Jaskaranvir K Bains. He was a brilliant student of LA school. After graduating from LA Matheson secondary school, he was passionate about real estate business, and he finished his study to be a realtor in 2017. He was a sports lover and was very creative and adventurous. Everything was exciting and growing and was moving fast to achieve higher echelons. Since the future is unknown and is full of uncertainties, life became challenging when he was diagnosed with cancer. Life became hopeless and depressed. At this moment, family and friends became the pillar of encouragement; he fought courageously with this killer disease but left for his heavenly abode in March 2018 at the very young age of 20. Master Gurkanwarjit floated the idea to his parents when he had reached the last stage of disease and took a promise from his father to set up the Gurgian foundation before leaving this world. The existing Gurgian foundation was formed by him which is raising funds to help the international students who suffer from cancer. It is a tribute to Gurkanwarjit and is an effort to keep his initiative of supporting people suffering from cancer. The Gurgian foundation shall work with the vision to spread awareness and cure people suffering from this killer disease along with more social activities to help needy people.
I am a two-time cancer survivor from Jan 2017 to April 2022. When I was declared cancer free a second time after removal of my 30% liver, I felt a compelling wish to pay tribute to Terry Fox by walking across Canada through 13 main cities starting from St. John’s, the same place where Terry fox dipped his only leg before commencing his ‘Hope of marathon’ in 1980. I with the help of my philanthropist friends Inderjit Singh Bains & Jay Minhas along with several dedicated members and media raised $51,000 in less than two months and donated to BC Cancer Foundation in the presence of BC MLA Amandeep Singh. My walk and fund raise campaign was covered by national TV channels CBC, CTV and Global news besides numerous local print media, radios & TV channels. I have spent almost $9000 from my own pocket for raising the funds. I have devoted &want to devote most of my rest of the life to help society by spreading the message of positivity and staying strong in adverse times like I went through in the last six years. Hon’ble Raj Chouhan, BC parliament speaker & Harry Bains, BC MLA besides many more states persons have highly appreciated my efforts. In future, I will be working to bring people out of depression by motivating them through various ways like motivational speeches, seminars, various cultural activities.
Jay Minhas is a business magnate,Philanthropist, and Investor. He is a founder member of Guru Nanak food bank which is helping international students by giving ration and food. He is a Charter member of Canadian India foundation. He has served as a President of Rotary Club Vancouver Fraserview. As a President of PICS Surrey for 3 years (2007-2010), he played a lead role for the construction of PICS assisted Living. He has donated millions in bringing up facilities in India like Eye Hospital in Adampur, International advisor at Sant Baba Bagh Singh University (SBBSU) Jalandhar and Guru Nanak Mission Hospital (200 beds) in Mithapur Jalandhar functional since April 2018. He is a poet and active traveler. He is deeply associated with the BC cancer foundation. He always desire for better and healthy future for humans.
Ruby Aulakh is a business women and Philanthropist. She is a successful counselor and mentor for the needy people. She is passionate about welfare of others and venture to alleviate the struggle of others. She is a proactive volunteer for BC cancer foundation, active member of Guru Nanak food bank which is helping international students by giving ration and food. She is a leading volunteer in community investment and donating time to charities. She believes in supporting communities and helps create better world. Her contribution in forming and strengthening Gurgian Foundation is praiseworthy.
Inderjit Singh Bains is a Pioneer Director-Producer of Music and films in North America and managing director at B Block Media INC. and Desiwood film production company, Aldergrove,BC. He is an entrepreneur and Philanthropist. He is a founder member of Gurgian Foundation. He is mentally and emotionally strong and always contributing in community services actively working in various organizations in BC, Canada. He is deeply involved with the BC cancer foundation and played major role in Prof Avtar Singh Virdi’s walk for cancer awareness and research fund raising campaign as a team manager. In the year 2018, after losing his son Gurkanwarjit Singh aged 20 years to this killer disease Cancer, he and family was completely shattered, however with god’s grace and blessings he reconciled and fought back. He is completely devoted to support needy people medically,emotionally and financially so that they can lead happy and healthy life with their families.
I am proud to be part of Gurgian Foundation which is raising funds to support cancer patients. I am retired Indian Air Force Officer served proudly for 30 years. I was always associated with the welfare schemes for Special children, Rehabilitation of Tsunami effected people and Support to the earthquake victims. I always believe in “ No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted”. We must join hands and serve the community to fight against this disease and support people medically and emotionally to lead healthy life with dear ones.
Devinderjit singh Nijjar is weight lifting champion of BC, owner of Best driving school, construction business and working for humanity with few social organizations along with Gurgian foundation as pioneer member.
Varinderjit singh bains is surrey businessman and always play active role in social activities. He is pioneer member of Gurgian foundation also.
